Venues traditionally use 25 times the resources of the average household. Withover 2,500 people a week coming through our doors, resource management is exponentially important. By reducing our resource consumption, we not only help the planet, but also save money. San Francisco's progressive incentives can be leveraged for a financial savings by venues more than any other small business.
Waste: August- 75% Diversion from Landfill ($1500.00 Rebate)
- All our foods and liquids are managed through a recycled and composted waste system
- All events are "low-to-no waste" - (corncups, straws )
- Used kitchen grease is donated to http://gotgrease.org for bio-diesel fuel
- Interface Carpet Tiles - when one gets ruined we canjust replace that square
- NO UV coating on our flyers - Although paperless promotion is better, the UV coating that is standard makes flyers non-recyclable and the ones that wind up in the sewers wind up adding to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP)
Energy: Works with supply and demand
- 34cents/KW hour during peak hours and 7 cents/KW hour at night.... see if you are eligible for a rate adjustment by calling PG&E
- Lighting Retrofit with LED
- Encourage employees to take the stairs (behavior change is equally important)
- PG&E Energy Audit - Zen Compound is retrofitting all lighting and will receive a $17,000 rebate when complete
- Offset all of our energy usage since June 2007 with PG&E's ClimateSmartTM
Water: August Usage - 133,144 gallons
The PUC offers rebates up to $200 for upgrading to a toilet that uses 1.26 or less gallons. We found ours for $149 at Home Depot.
- Got a Water audit from the PUC
- Low flow toilets - 1.26 gallons/flush
- Leak inspection - A slow drip can amount to 50 gallons a month!
