Tired of the traditionally wasteful nature of thehospitality industry, in 2004, Paul Hemming, owner and founder of Zen Compound,set his sights on creating the greenest nightclub in the world.  The result: Hemming created the foundationfor a living, breathing, hub of recreation, culture and education that strictlyadheres to the triple bottom line of: People, Profit and Planet.  Hemming hired Mike Zuckerman as Director of Sustainability in January 2007, to investigate how to implement a sustainable venue in San Francisco.

 

Our vision is to create an eco-conscious "edu-tainment" complex that works synergistically with all of the entities of the Zen Compound to inspire and work with the community to take on the most challenging issues facing San Francisco and our planet.....and have a good time doing it!

 

Green Temple aims to have the greatest positive impact and limit our negative impact.  We achieve this through internally implementing resource conservation measures, perusing innovative andinspirational solutions and engaging in the community. As important asscientific advances and building materials are important we also need to change the way we live and think.

 

Third Spaces traditionally use 25 times the average home.  With over 2,000 people a week coming through our doorsresource management is exponentially important.  By reducing our resource consumption we not only help theplanet but also save money.  SanFrancisco's progressive incentives can be leveraged for a financial savings by Third Spaces than any other small business.
